Travelers picturing endless golden Caribbean sands along the Amalfi Coast need to adjust their expectations. The geological wonder of the Amalfi shoreline is its verticality: limestone peaks rising over 1,000 meters straight out of the Tyrrhenian Sea. As a result, coastal beaches are naturally small, sheltered pockets created where mountain streams cut through rock gorges over millennia.
